Kate is a
Sydney local who was never one to follow the typical path. Whether it was
taking a month off work to fly halfway around the world and walk the
well-trodden path of the Camino in Spain, or crawling through underground cave
systems with nothing but a head torch affixed to her head, she thought
adventure was sewn into her makeup. That was until she met Hugh and he shook up
everything she thought she knew about herself.
When Kate
met Hugh she was at a point in her life where she didn't want to waste
time on relationships that weren't going to work. So between the two of
them - they continue to this day to debate which one, came up with
the crazy idea of buying a sailing boat and just going. Sailing out the
Sydney heads. It was an opportunity to test the relationship in the confined
space of 13.4m of boat. Some would say quite an extreme way to test your
compatibility with someone.
Kate and
Hugh set out from Sydney in April 2013. They intended to be gone for 9 months,
but it became an almost 2-year adventure. It took her a while to find her
comfort zone, and the long break from work sent her searching for a better way
to peek beneath the surface of the places they were visiting. To experience the
lives of the people who lived there. Writing became the avenue through
which Kate did that, it made her question why things were the way they were and
drove her to seek out the answers.
Kate's
writing will take you to these remote places and you will deep dive into the
culture while she paints a picture with words of what it was really like to be
there. She will draw you in with the short blog stories and you will be
searching for more - and here it is - 'Under The Arms of the Sky - A Sailing
Adventure' with more depth and chance experiences to keep you
enthralled page after page.
You can also read about their boat, Elizabeth Jane II a Peterson 44 here or watch a video of their travels in the 'movies' shortcut, down there on the left.
But most of all enjoy visiting these amazing destinations, transport yourself to another place!
